In this episode, Dr. Nandy Toro from Vertebre Chiropractic Studio tackles one of the biggest health challenges of our time: poor posture in a screen-dominated world.

We’re spending 8-12 hours a day hunched over devices, and our bodies are paying the price. Dr. Toro explains why this matters more than you think and shares practical insights on protecting your spine and overall health.

Whether you work from home, spend hours on your phone, or sit at a desk all day, this episode will change how you think about your daily habits.

Hey there, it’s Doctor Nandy Toro from Vertebre Chiropractic Studio here in Winter Garden. Thanks for tuning in today.

So let me ask you something. Right now, as you’re listening to this… how are you sitting? Or standing? I bet a lot of you are looking down at your phone, or hunched over a laptop. Am I right?

Here’s the thing. We are living in the most screen-focused era in human history. And our bodies? Well, they weren’t exactly designed for eight, ten, twelve hours a day staring at screens. The result is that I’m seeing more posture-related problems than ever before. And I’m talking about people in their twenties and thirties with neck issues that we used to only see in much older patients.

Let me break down why this matters so much. Your head weighs about ten to twelve pounds when it’s balanced properly on your spine. But for every inch your head moves forward, you’re adding an extra ten pounds of stress on your neck and upper back. So if you’re looking down at your phone right now, your neck is supporting the equivalent of forty or fifty pounds. Do that for hours every day, and you’re setting yourself up for chronic pain, headaches, and long term damage.

We call this forward head posture, and it’s becoming an epidemic. You might’ve heard it called tech neck or text neck. Whatever you want to call it, it’s a real problem.

Now, here’s what’s happening inside your body. When your posture is off, it doesn’t just strain your muscles. It affects how your nervous system communicates. Your spine protects your spinal cord, which is the highway for messages between your brain and the rest of your body. Poor posture can interfere with that communication. It can affect everything from your energy levels to your breathing to your mood.

I’ve had patients come in complaining about fatigue or brain fog, and they’re surprised when we start working on their posture. But once we get their spine aligned and they start being more mindful of their positioning, they feel sharper and more energized.

So what can you do about it? Let me give you three simple things you can start today.

First, bring your screens up to eye level. Whether it’s your phone, your laptop, or your monitor at work. If you’re constantly looking down, you’re constantly straining. Get a laptop stand, prop your monitor up on some books, whatever it takes. Your eyes should be level with the top third of your screen.

Second, set a timer. Every thirty minutes, take a twenty second break. Roll your shoulders back, look up at the ceiling, do some gentle neck stretches. Just interrupt that forward head position throughout the day.

And third, strengthen your upper back. Those muscles between your shoulder blades are crucial for good posture. Simple exercises like wall angels or rows with a resistance band can make a huge difference.

Now, if you’re already dealing with neck pain, headaches, or upper back tension that won’t go away, that’s your body telling you something needs attention. And that’s where chiropractic care comes in. We can assess your spine, identify misalignments, and create a plan to get you feeling better and functioning better.

At Vertebre Chiropractic Studio, we focus on the whole picture. Not just adjusting your spine, but teaching you how to maintain good posture and movement patterns in your daily life. Because the goal isn’t just to feel better for a day or two. It’s to build long term health and resilience.

So, here’s my challenge for you. Pay attention to your posture for the next twenty four hours. Notice how you sit, how you stand, how you hold your phone. Awareness is the first step. And if you need help, we’re right here in Winter Garden. Give us a call at Vertebre Chiropractic Studio. We’d love to help you take care of your spine so you can take care of everything else in your life.

Thanks for listening, and I’ll catch you next time. Take care of yourself.
